G1GP Ebisu Japan Spring 2011 - DeJager Wins Again

It was great to see 15 foreigners turn up for G1GP yesterday held at Ebisu west course, and judged by Kumakubo and Suenaga from Team Orange.

Battle of the RB20s.. Stewy Bryant follows me (Disco Stu) down the hill at Ebisu West drift course.
15 drivers might not seem like a lot, but after North Japan and Ebisu circuit suffered huge damage both physically and rumor-wise from the Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear disaster, everyone was wondering if G1 and drift matsuri would go ahead and if any foreigners would show up for them at all!

G1GP car line up... See the Cefiro.. or what's left of it?
Suffice to say, G1 went ahead as scheduled and 15 brave and dedicated drivers showed up - so thank you to all those drivers who made the effort to come!

Jay Duca was loving it all day in his JZX90 Cresta.
Battle for 3rd. Christian Pickering right up the a** of Jay Duca.
The final battle opponents. Chris Dejager (left) and Stewy Bryant (right).

Two Thumbs Up From The Day's Winner - Chris DeJager! Congrats!

The final battle saw Chris DeJager in his half a R32 with RB25DET go against Stewy Bryant in his mint and near stock C33 Laurel.

Chris walked away with the win after Stewy spun on the second run. This was Chris' second consecutive win at G1GP. He won last year's Autumn G1GP round on the same Ebisu Nishi course.

Thanks again for all the drivers who participated, PowerVehicles.com and to Team Orange and Ebisu circuit staff for putting on another memorable G1GP!

See you all for the Summer G1GP!

What Drift Color Are You?

Fellow Japan expat and drifter Luke Huxham has started a new website - www.DRIFTCOLORS.com

Luke is right into drifting and his talents not only lie behind the wheel. His amazing film and video skills really express his love for the sport and drift community.

Since the Japan tragedy in March 2011, Luke has been hard at work putting the first 2 episodes together and using the slogan "Ganbappenai! Tohoku"... which means "Hang in there, North East Japan!"

Here are the videos..

Episode 1 - Suenaga Naoto takes us around the courses at Ebisu circuit.

DriftColors.com : Episode 1 - Ebisu Circuit Course Introduction from Luke Huxham on Vimeo.

Episode 2 - We talk to the drivers at Ebisu (Japanese and foreigners)

DriftColors.com : Episode 2 - Ebisu Circuit Meet The Drivers Part 1 from Luke Huxham on Vimeo.

In Episode 2 you might recognize a familiar face/car... ME - Disco Stu and my trusty Cefiro when it was in pristine condition!

That footage was taken about 18 months ago (Fall Matsuri 2009)... I think I've matured a little since then... I hope anyway.. and my Cefiro doesn't look anywhere near as clean and straight as that any more!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the videos and look out for more upcoming episodes on DriftColors.com.

Oh, and if you're wondering, Ebisu circuit is has re-opened after the earthquake and is safe from radiation... but most importantly, drift matsuri is on this weekend (April 30/May 1), starting with the first round of G1GP for 2011 tomorrow!

"Hang in there Touhoku!!"
