Drifting In The Snow (video)

When winter comes to the northern parts of Japan, the streets and particularaly the mountain roads get a nice thick layer of snow. Just put some studded tires on your missile and you've got the perfect recipe for a drift expereince like nothing else.

Check out this video of a S14 silvia missile drifting in the snow somewhere in Japan. Man this looks like fun!

The cool thing is, all Japanese mountain touge roads look like this after a good snow down. Hopefully I'll be able to get out this next winter to the mountains behind my house and do or at least see and film some myself.

Crap Drift Video Becomes Awesome!

A few weeks ago I posted some un-cut videos on here of me and Chris Dejager drifting in the wet on school course and drift land at Ebisu circuit.

Well, here is the nicely edited version of that raw footage:

Thanks to Chris from www.DriftWeapon.com for the awesome edit job and his girlfriend Chance for filming the outside shots.

The on-car footage was done by me.. well, my drift X170 camera and a suction mount.

Touge Street Drifting In Japan (video)

Drifting as we know it today started out a few decades ago on twisty mountain roads here in Japan known as "touge" (pronounced "toe-gay")... funny I know but that's how to say it! lol

These days there are still many secluded touge roads in Japan that street drifters frequent mainly at night, besides the keisatsu (cops) cracking down on them.

But a few J-cops in white mini cars doesn't scare them away too easily. Japan has ample mountain roads perfect for drifting so when one touge road gets too much heat on it, they find a new one to wreak havoc on.

This video shows one of the more famous touge roads in Japan. I won't disclose the name of the place but I can say that I have been there late one Saturday night.. and I'm dying to go again!

I have seen the expose of trains of drift cars roaring up and down the sides of this touge valley myself. It was out of this world.

Now... just imagine that road when it's pitch black and a pack of 10 cars are screaming at 8000 rpm all the up through those hairpins with crowds of people waving torches and flashy lights cheering on the drifters from the sidelines.

You've never seen anything like it.. well, the movies aren't too far off actually, but being there in the flesh is something else! That's what Japanese street drifting is all about.

Robbie Nishida's R35 GTR Drift Weapon (Video)

Ok, it's a little old news now - this thing appeared last year! But for us Japan based drifters, (or maybe just me) it's the first decent one, and only one? on the scene.

I caught a glimpse of Robbie Nishida's Hankook sponsored R35 GTR while browsing some photos of a recent Formula D round.

And just to make sure it was a real GTR and not some fake fiberglass GTR look-a-like I dug a little deeper (on Youtube ;).. and no doubt it's real. It's real and it's awesome.

Remember all the hype about Nomuken drifting a R35 GTR in the D1 over here in Japan that started about 2 years ago?

To this day, no R35 GTR drift car to be seen (not in Japan anyway). Nomuken is still driving his R34 4 door... or was until he crashed it at Ebisu last month. This could have been a perfect opportunity for his sponsor to fund a R35 build up.. if Blitz was still his sponsor.

Anyway, for all who want to see what a full drift spec R35 GTR looks like Robbie's is it.

It goes to show that Formula D is a way further ahead than Japan's D1... in the sponsor dollars category anyway :)

Drifting In The Wet (Videos)

Last Sunday here at Ebisu, it was a poor missile drifters dream come true... RAIN ALL DAY!

Some people hate it and some people love it, but drifting missiles in the wet, for guys like Chris Dejager and me is the perfect scenario.

Tires last longer, its easier on the cars, its cooler on the drivers, cars slide more, its a little more un-nerving.. what more could you ask for?

So I packed my Drift X170 camera and headed to Ebisu to fire up the good 'ol Ceffy and hit the tracks for some rain battles with Chris.

You can always expect some carnage on rainy days at Ebisu so taking a camera to capture the thrills and spills is a must!

And here is a little bit of footage from the day... Lucky my camera is water proof.. and shock proof which I tested out with a bit of off-roading at the end of this video! (Ebisu school course)

And this one also with a little off-roading right at the end :) I just couldn't seem to stick to Chris no matter how hard I pushed. My line was off but at least I know now so I'll practice the right way next time. (Ebisu Drift Land)

All this footage was taken with my awesome X170 Drift action camera and RAM suction mount. Love it!

More to come so stay wired!

D1 Street Legal 2010 Ebisu West Course (Pics)

Last weekend on a blazing hot Sunday September 5th, the 5th round of D1 Street Legal was held at Ebisu west (nishi) course.

Emily from Powervehicles.com made it through qualifying for the ladies "Venus Challenge" in her bright pink S14 silvia on the Saturday and ran in the first battle of the day on Sunday.

Unfortunately, she was beaten by the #1 qualifier of the day (3UP green 180sx).

Andy from Powervehicles.com and Chris Dejager entered but just missed the cut on the Saturday so they didn't get to run on the Sunday.

The winner of the D1SL round was Tanaka in his red and black S14 Silvia who went against D1 driver Tezuka Tsuyoshi in his white R34 Skyline.

Tanaka knocked out Nakamura early in the battles so everyone had his eye on him on the day. Great driving and he deserved the win!

Another great result came from Sumika (Team Orange - yellow 180sx) who placed 1st in the ladies Venus Challenge and 3rd in the Street Legal.

Maybe one day Disco Stu will make a D1 SL appearance.

Actually, this day I got a few laps practice in on School course and minami before brushing the wall and bending my tie rod.

Oh well, practice makes perfect :)

G1 GP 2010 Round 2 Short Videos

Here are a couple of short videos I shot at the last G1GP. I planned to do a lot more filming but I was too busy driving (in between changing tires and all the rest of the commotion) to get all the good stuff.

I captured most of my practice runs and qualifying runs with some helmet cam action - but not all runs were good enough to show to the public!

My (3rd) Qualifying Run

A walk through of some of the Gaijin's cars there on the day...

Tomorrow is D1SL at Ebisu West course. I'll be there to support Andy and Chris and Emily. I wish I was driving but as you can see in the video.. I need a lot more practice!
